Who is it for?

You must be:

  • Over 18 years old
  • Of British Asian heritage

 What are we looking for?

  • Innovative, contemporary new plays from all genres, including dramas & musicals that have a British Asian focus and require no more than four actors (character doubling is fine)

What do you send in?

Your submission can be:

  • A full script
  • A detailed treatment or
  • A series of scenes (with a synopsis outlining the full story)

Write a few paragraphs (no more than one side of A4) telling us about yourself, why your piece is important and any writing experience you may have already.  Remember we are looking for both experienced writers who may have been produced before as well as new, emerging writers. Be sure to fill in the equal opportunities form when submitting.

What happens next?

If your submission is selected, you will receive:

  • A seed commission of £500 to develop a piece of new writing
  • Sessions with an industry mentor or dramaturg
  • Skills development workshops
  • ‘Writer in Residency’ days
  • Masterclass days with an established playwright
  • A showcase event to share in front of theatre practitioners & fellow associates.

After the first year, a few artists will be selected for year two of the programme and will receive additional support to develop their idea further, leading to clear progression routes into the industry once the programme is complete.

“I enhanced my delivery of my poems and learnt specific rhythmic ways to perform them. I also learned how to make myself vulnerable to audiences in order to connect with them more” Daya Kaur Bharj, Spoken Word Artist & Writer - Year 2 Associate

“Rifco were great at providing support and encouragement and helping us find and hone the story we wanted to tell. They were also communicative and highly organised” Sumerah Srivastav, Writer - Year 2 Associate
