Channel 4 Playwrights' Scheme
2 February 2018
Rifco Theatre Company and Watford Palace Theatre are delighted to announce that writer Asif Khan is one of five winners of this year’s Channel 4 Playwrights’ Scheme.
The annual scheme which celebrates and supports emerging British writing talent, awards five bursaries to new theatre writers and has been supported by Channel 4 since 2013. Four bursaries are supported by Channel 4 and the fifth by The Peggy Ramsay Foundation.
Playwrights were nominated by UK theatre Artistic Directors, with the five winners selected by the scheme’s panel chaired by Sir Richard Eyre and including Film4’s Commissioning Executive Julia Oh and Channel 4’s Head of Development for Drama, Matthew Wilson.
Asif will spend a year on attachment working with Rifco Theatre Company and Watford Palace Theatre, whilst working on a full-length play.
His debut play Combustion successfully toured the UK in 2017 and received nominations for Best Writer in the Stage Debut Awards and Best New Play in the Off West End Awards and was the winner of Best Stage Productions at the Asian Media Awards 2017.
